The other night I watched a TED talk and the guy, his name has slipped my memory, referred to self discipline as “delayed gratification”. Thought-provoking. #lettering #sketch (at Ocupop)

This is an image of the sketch and final product of one out of four 2’x2’ chalkboards that are behind the counter. I started each board by marking out the grid and then filling each space with the appropriate word or price. Out of the 4 boards and 1 wall, the only graphic that I projected from my computer was the MIAD Union logo on the “SOUP” board, everything else was done by my hands, a ruler, a level, and my best judgement.

In response to some of the comments on Reddit, here are my initial sketches of the chalk wall. After I drew the word “specialty” I plotted out the grid for the 36”x65.5” area. Once I developed the majority of the sketch, it was used as reference to create the image on the wall. There were only couple changes from the sketch, such as the placement of the “$1.50” as well as the headline for “tea,” and the rest that is not included was created as I went along (taking into consideration what I had already drawn).
